Cat Flap Tunnel
Cat flaps can be installed pretty much anywhere in your house; from doors to windows, and walls to partitions, you have plenty of options to choose from. Installing cat flaps in doors is very common and easy, too, but window and wall installed options are also available if you need them. In case of wall installations, most manufacturers offer a cat flap tunnel device. Not only walls, these tunnel extensions can be used to install your cat flap in any surface of any depth.
A tunnel is basically, well, just that, a small cat sized tunnel. Since walls are generally much thicker than doors, and all cat flap models don’t come with that thick a body to fit in the entire depth of the wall, tunnels act as a connection between the indoor and outdoor panel of the cat flap. Most cat flaps can be installed in deep walls and doors with the tunnel extension which make it easy to fit the cat flap in any surface you want, regardless of the depth.
While keeping in mind your own preferences, you should also consider a few important things before deciding on a spot to install the cat flap at. You should ensure that they are at an easily accessible location in the house, and when installing the cat flap and tunnel accessories in the wall, you should take care that the drilling is properly done and the fittings are perfect.
Most cat flaps can be installed in any surface of a 0-2” thickness. For walls, which are thicker than that, cat flap tunnels come in sections of 7-8’’ that you can buy separately, depending on the thickness of the surface and the extra depth you need to cover. Installing the tunnels is not much difficult than fixing the cat flap itself, and just require some little extra drilling and hammering.
There could be any number of reasons why you would like to have the cat flap installed in your wall. You might want to have the cat flap in your kitchen, but there’s no backdoor, in which case you can get it fixed in a wall. Or it could be because it’s much easier to fix wall if you decide to move the cat flap to another location, or plan to replace it. In case of doors, the repair can be more difficult and costly. You can choose any model and brand and see if a cat flap tunnel is available for it.
